Back to good habits this week - kicked off the day well with breakfast! I have been bad about skipping breakfast and going right to the grind at work. I have tossed Cocoa Puffs to the curb..I am still in mourning. You just have no idea how much I LOVE Cocoa Puffs. But, I love life more and I need to get healthier in order to continue enjoying life...so adios to my favorite cereal. It feels like giving up Diet Coke! How sad to be that addicted to a food? Ugh...I need to slap myself :)
I wanted my veggie cereal for breakfast today but then remembered that we had packed up the food processor in order to make room in the cabinets in the kitchen and clear counter tops. Man, 0 for 2, but still not caving in to my sweet tooth. No sir, not today...today I am an ex-addict of sugary coated goodness drizzled in just the right amount of cocoa. A cup and a half later of Honey Combs, Almond Milk, and sliced strawberries...and voila...I had breakfast. I was pretty surprised that 1 serving of Honey Combs is 1 1/2 cups and only 130 calories. Wow...It wasn't Cocoa Puffs...but I tried my best to "like" it.
Lunch came around and I won't tell you what I was really craving...it's like talking to a cop...everything I say can and will be used against me, so my lips are sealed. :) I made Lara and I a chik'in patty, not to be confused with a chicken patty, with a side of fruit and a handful of organic sea salt & vinegar chips. What's the difference between chik'in and chicken you ask? One is meatless with zippo sat fat, zero cholesterol, and zilch bad for you ingredients. It was also super tasty! I was actually missing chicken today...I don't know why but I started having cravings for all things chicken and it was driving me crazy! I was even envisioning those funny cow banners that Chic-Fil-A is so creative in marketing. Nice to know a little chik'in could cure me of my cravings...
Snacks today? 2 tangerines and a pear...yummy yummy...finished off the day with a healthy tofu stir fry. Starting back into my running routine this weekend that I stopped after my last personal training session. We are busting our tails this week trying to get the rest of the house finished so we can list on the market next week. So I have set a goal for myself - once house is ready to list on the market no matter how hectic and busy life gets I WILL make time to do my running every single blasted day. Stay tuned for serious lack of oxygen Saturday...In fact you will probably hear me breathing around the path fom wherever you are on Saturday...I will be gasping for air 30 seconds into it...but, I am going to do it and stick with it or kill myself trying.
I am starting to get bored with my vegetarian recipes. I wish I was a better cook so that I can just make up all my own stuff and not have to rely on recipes. I need some fresh recipe ideas but have no friends that are vegetarian. Bummer... will have to do another Internet search this weekend when I make my new grocery shopping list.
Speaking of groceries...those with children know what I am talking about when I say that Spongebob really needs to start smiling on the packages of healthier things in the supermarket. He used to be on single packets of edamame but now..nada. We were at Target the other day and Cristian decided he wanted to try these new squeezable apple sauce packets with...you guessed it...Spongebob on the outside. It was grape flavored applesauce that you squeeze to eat from this bag that looks like a vampire blood bag. One good thing going for the sponge? No sugar added. Well whoopy doo... So I bought it for him - only 4 come in the box so what the heck...I had a weak moment. So Cristian tries his new applesauce for the first time today at school and when he came home he was telling us ALL about how everyone reacted to his applesauce...here is his blow by blow..
C: Dirk smelled my applesauce and said it was weird looking because it isn't supposed to be purple.
C: Emma said...eeewwww that is so gross and you are eating it!!
C: Riley made funny faces and wanted to know what I was eating and I told him and then he said okay
C: Ms B (his teacher) walked by when I was slurping up my applesauce and she made a funny face at me that looked like this:
Who would have thought that grape applesauce with a weird sponge on the front could generate such a discussion in 1st grade? Ha...too funny...I love his animated expressions when he tells these stories.
He also felt the need to educate me on nutrition and exercise today after doing what he claimed was 100 jumping jacks, 100 push ups, and 100 sit ups in about a span of 5 minutes. According to my charming child.."if you eat healthy food like broccoli and apples and carrots and do your exercises then your stomach will start to go straight Mims. That's what you have to do." So - in the spirit and search for my "straight stomach" here is to a week of GOOD healthy eating. :) Maybe, I should ask him what to do about the curvy thighs and padded butt? He seems to know everything these days... :)
Cheers,
M E
