Today kicked off on the wrong foot...I was up at 4:45am which I thought was a nice way to kick off an early work day and catch up on things before taking a friend to the airport for 6am. Glad to know that I can still be surprised. Not only did I not get much done in that early kick-off but the work day turned so sour that I ended up missing my 60 minute morning workout, tennis, and lunch...major bummer. After I got off work at 5pm, yes it was one of those days, I had only burned a measly 1600 calories for the day...ugh! Long way from my 3,000 goal...
Decided to load up the 3 dogs and take them to the dog park with Cristian for some running around and managed to get some walking in at least. Felt good to do something in motion anyway! The puppy acted like she was in a war zone and every dog that tried to play with her sent her running and yelping...which of course set Mu into "guardian mama" mode and she tried to go James Bond on any dog that came near the puppy...Sabrina was running carefree playing with anything, even the things that didn't move or have tails, and tried to swipe some guy's coke can while leaping over his head and the table in excitement...rounding them up and heading home sounded almost as good as a day off at that point. I managed to get all 3 dogs and the 6 year old in the car alone, Lara was at Cristian's school for a teacher conference, even after Sabrina bolted from the back and tried to make a dash across the busy parking lot. Not to be outdone, Genna (our new puppy) got car sick as I turned down our street. All in all...it was a lovely adventure...ha, is that sarcasm?
The day could only get better...and it did, because I finally got to get a decent workout in that didn't involve cleanup duty or tail chasing :) Cristian grabbed his bag of toys and all 3 of us hit the tennis courts. Lara and I played a hard set, in which she crushed me 6-0, and then did long drive drills. But, to give myself some credit...I think some of my swings sent a cool breeze down to Florida...so my Florida friends can thank me for that nice cool front today. Ha...
After we came home, Lara took on bath duty for Cristian and I decided to try to challenge myself a bit with some RUNNING. I know, you probably just re-read that statement because you were sure you didn't just read the word running...but you did. :) While she worked on bath, pj's, and reading I stayed outside and did a series of sprints and walks...Sprint to the end of the block, power walk back, sprint to the end of the block, sprint back, power walk to the end of the block, power walk back, lather...rinse...repeat...until the POP. Ugh...this damn knee. It drives me insane how easy it is for my bad knee to just give out, swell up, or bring me to my knees, no pun intended. Perm. injuries suck :( After a good 25 minutes of sprinting and walking, I had my calorie burn to almost 10 calories a minute the whole time, my knee made this loud pop and then hurt like hell...so I walked 4 more easy laps and then called it a night.
So far I have clocked 90 minutes of moderate/vigorous physical activity and burned over 2500 calories. I am still going to try to get the 3 mile boot camp with Leslie in tonight...Definitely will need to ice this crap knee...
I'm proud of myself for doing all the sprints I did because after about sprint #3 I definitely heard myself saying...the hell with this, 3 is good enough...But, I just kept telling myself, OK one more sprint and then I can stop and that 1 more sprint turned into over 30...Go ME!
2 more days until vacation, but hey, who's counting? :)
Keep Moving,
M E
