It has been quite a long time since I have last blogged.  After the last blog in November I wasn't sure that I would keep the blog and had deleted it at one point.  I decided that at the end of this long journey it would be nice to have something that captured the trials and successes along the way.  So, now that I have gotten past the holiday season and the 3 week virus I had, I am ready to get back to work on a healthier ME and to track the wild ride as I go...

2011 has brought some major realizations, changes, and new addictions to my door step! I wanted to go into the New Year as a better me.  I re-evaluated my values and what was important to me and I wanted to align my actions to support those values.  During this I realized that I definitely had many areas in need of improvement.  One thing that really struck a nerve was the realization that although I am highly passionate about animal causes and have generously supported programs to end animal cruelty and abuse I wasn't quite living up to that in my life. My wallet - made of leather. My diet included - chicken, eggs, seafood.  I have been a borderline vegetarian for quite some time and after the Christmas holiday Lara and I decided to finally take the step into vegetarianism.  I am an avid animal rights advocate and morally I have never been happier to kiss meat and seafood goodbye.  Actually I kicked all dairy products out the door too with the exception of cheese which I have had once or twice since.  Not only do I feel better as a person but my body has been thanking me for 6 weeks.  I feel so much healthier, more energized, food doesn't sit like a rock in my stomach, and believe it or not I get hungry MUCH less throughout the day.

I am also happy to report that I have cleansed my life of anything that uses animals, new food regimen, new wallet, new ME - a much happier, much more at peace with life, ME.

Another major realization was just how toxic some of the products we use everyday are to our bodies.  Using the Cosmetic Database, http://cosmeticdatabase.com/, you can see the toxic levels in everything from your brand of deoderant to the cleaning solution you use to mop your floors.  I was appaled at how unhealthy and full of toxins some of my favorite products contained.  Good health is much more than diet and exercise, it is about everything you expose yourself to as well.

My household now uses all natural products from body care to house cleaning.  Not only do they work just as good, or in some cases even better, but they are toxin free.  You would be amazed at how many choices you have out there in products and even more amazed at what some of the ingredients in those things that you buy really stand for.  Research. Education. Research. Education.  I cannot stress how important it is to constantly research and educate yourself on things because your health is the most important thing you need to take care of.

Going into this new year I am happy to say that I feel better about myself, my life, and my choices than I ever have before.  Eliminating toxic products, unnatural ingredients, processed food, artificial sweeteners/dyes/flavors/additives, soda, meat, most dairy, and seafood has not only been easy - but I don't miss any of it a single bit!  I have also become quite the cook!  It is amazing how putting some restrictions on what I will eat has actually opened up a whole new world of food.  There are so many foods out there, dishes, recipes, etc...that I never would have taken notice of before - and I LOVE it!

So that brings me to the new addictions.  At the top of that list would be - raw veggie cereal (oh yes you read that right and it is YUMMY), almond milk, coconut milk, pineapple spread on wheat crackers, fruit salad, lentils, almond butter, cucumbers, broccoli soup, and COOKING!

Here is to living up to your beliefs, healthy choices, and fresh beginnings!

Cheers,
M E
