I have said "so long" to many things in the past couple of months...inches, pounds, some clothes, the microwave, beef, and for the most part butter. I can't say that I miss any of them either! No, I haven't shed pounds as quickly as others but I am perfectly happy with that because the changes that I have made are permanent changes in my life, and although the weight may come off slower, it will STAY off. I didn't put on all this weight in 6 months so I don't expect to lose it all in 6 months either. It is more about losing the right things and gaining the right things that I am concerned with...not so much the scale. My focus is not to lose weight - it is to lose FAT, and they are not the same thing. Gain muscle, burn fat, lose inches...my mantra :)
Yep you read right...I said "chow baby" to the microwave. The dangers of using a microwave are not new news by any means. The studies and medical evidence have always been there staring me in the face... chemical changes in the food, increase risk of cancer, etc...but I continued to use it on "occasion". A friend of mine recently wrote a blog where she called the microwave the "curse of convenience" and I couldn't have said it better myself. We really are prey to things that are convenient and at what cost? Our health? Our children's health? So I said to myself one day..."M E what is better for your busy schedule? An extra 10 - 15 minutes to heat things up on the stove or ruining your health the rest of your life?" I'll take better health for $1,000 Alex! LOL!
Honestly, the only things we ever used the microwave for were "steam in the bag" veggies and microwave popcorn. Not hard to toss both of those...fresh veggies now go in my awesome waterless cookware and we have a popcorn maker which makes the BEST tasting popcorn in a way that as my son puts it..."is magic". I can make fresh, healthy, popcorn in the same amount of time I can toss a bag into the microwave to pop. Simply add 1 TB of organic coconut oil, 1/2 cup of organic popcorn kernels, let the "magic" popping happen while Cristian watches in amazement with grins and smiles, and turn off when the popping stops! Flip over, empty into bowl, and sprinkle some natural sea salt on top and toss. Yum!!!
Today, Lara and I (and Cristian) hit the tennis courts at 8am and played for almost 2 hours. It was soooo nice to be out there when the air was still crisp. Felt great! I am afraid that we have hit the bounce out of some balls and need to find replacements. Poor little green dudes. Got some major housecleaning done, picked up my cousin from the airport and had a really nice dinner with him before dropping him back at the hotel, and popped in Dance Central for the Xbox 360 for the first time. I was apprehensive at first because I DO NOT dance...but after watching Lara do 2 songs and the calories she burned I was motivated enough to make a complete fool of myself, so I gave it a go. Oh my...it was FUN and the playbacks are HYSTERICAL! LOL! I was burning between 8 and 11 calories a minute on the songs I was dancing to. I found another fun way to cardio...woot!
Only 4 more days until Disney! I can't wait to meet up with an old friend from high school and her 4 adorable kiddos for the weekend while we are there. We are going to have a blast :)
Keep Moving,
M E
