Today was our first personal training session with Brandon and it felt great!  We met him at Celebration park in Allen, which is really built for a boot camp style workout I must say.  Since this was our first session he said it would be an "easy" one because he would mostly be doing assessments in order to determine what our weak areas are, what muscle groups need to be worked on, and our current fitness levels.  Well, even though we did a series of assessments I have to say that it still gave me a good workout!

Lara and I had to do step ups for a time frame of 3 minutes at a quick pace.  He checked our pulse and made notes.  My pulse was up there!  Tells you how out of shape I am!  Then we did a series of squats in different positions and he noticed the slightest things like how I slightly lean forward on my toes and different things.  We then moved on to some upper body assessments.  In 1 minute I only managed to do a measly 15 push-ups.  ugh... What is funny is that he commented almost immediately when I was doing push-ups that I must have an office job where I sit on a computer for long periods of time because he could see how stiff and tense the shoulder area was when I was doing push-ups.  Did a couple series of pull up/row's with an 8 pound dumbbell with left hand and then right hand.  It was interesting because I had an easier time with my left side than right but I am right handed.  I could definitely see where my muscles were weaker and where I struggled.  We did crunches too and I only managed to complete 36 in 1 minute.  Sad, isn't it?  We did a few other things like holding a plank for as long as possible to see how long as well as a few other things.

The last part of the session ended with my least favorite thing - jogging!  We did the big lap around the soccer area of Celebration Park.  He said he was going to have us jog for 60 seconds and then walk 60 seconds and repeat so he could get an idea of our breathing, fitness level, etc...Well, we started the 60 seconds, and he jogged right there with us, and I thought about 30 seconds into it I was going to have to stop but I went the whole minute.  During the 2nd jog he helped us start breathing correctly and it made a difference but is definitely something I have to get used to.  After a bit I started to fall back into my trap of panic breathing and really ran out of breath and started heaving.  He saw us starting to struggle and was so great about encouraging us a little further.  Little did Lara and I know that we actually jogged 90 seconds that last segment.  Then we walked the rest of the way back to the cars.

I have worked with trainers before at the gym but have to say that I am really glad I found this guy.  He is so down to earth, funny, and completely personable.  The fact that he used to be in my shoes really makes it easier too because it shows me that if he can do it and Megan his fiancee can do it and they started where I am starting then I can do it too!

I am really looking forward to Thursday which is our next session.  Lara is too and that says ALOT!

Oh and he mentioned that he thinks he has enough people interested to do a boot camp starting in the early summer in Allen so that may be something we can mix into our schedule too!  Heck yeah!!

I will get healthy.
I will get this body fat down to a healthy level.
I will become fit enough to run a 5K.

Cheers,
M E
