Today was a pretty good day although I haven't burned as many calories as I had anticipated which is ODD to say the least! As planned Lara and I put on our workout gear and headed out to the park for our first Boot Camp style workout! We walked, of course, to the park while Cristian rode his bike. He had a blast at the playground while Lara and I huffed and puffed nearby on the grass...what a sight we must have been to the team of young football players and parents in the field behind us practicing! LOL! But, we didn't let that stop us!
I lead us off by jogging a lap around a section of the park, then walking a lap, and alternating between the 2 for about 4 laps. After a 30 second break for water we did walking lunges across the park and back alternating legs and then went into walking squats back and forth. Now, the squats about killed me at that point because I was still SO sore from yesterday's workout! I don't know how but I managed to grunt through! OK from squats we went to the ledge where the playground dips down and did step up's - 25 on each leg and it was tough! I was ready to toss in the towel at 18...the playground is surrounded by a cement sidewalk so Lara and I walked the perimeter at a fast pace for about 10 minutes and then did some more jogging. Grabbed the kiddo and headed home...the whole way home we would speed walk 1 street, jog the next, until we got to the house! It felt great and what a workout!! Looking forward to "arm day" on Thursday!
So the odd part is that even though I kicked my ass in that workout today I have only burned 2121 calories so far tonight...guess my metabolism sucks today :(
Today's Menu:
Breakfast: Organic Drinkable Yogurt
Lunch: Sandwich with salt & vinegar chips
Snack: Apple
Snack: Granola Bar
Dinner: Tacos (extra lean turkey meat) and low fat black beans
Snack: Yogurt in a cake cone
Total Calories: 1400
So far today I have burned 2125 calories, walked 4538 steps, and 45 minutes of exercise...Not quite my 1,000 calorie deficit but still have 2 hours to burn...
Have made some progress on Cristian's learning struggles today too. Had a long communication with the teacher on the struggles we have had with him at home and she said that she is seeing the same things in class as well especially with his memory/retention and reading things completely backwards. We called around to see if a Neuropsychological Evaluation would be covered by Blue Cross but no such luck. Not only do they not cover it but they have no in-network people in their list at all! So after seeking recommendations from our doctor we discovered that an out of pocket evaluation would cost to the tune of $1600 and that was considered "cheap". OMG!!
We emailed the teacher letting her know what we discovered, etc.. and it just so happened that she was in the process of emailing us as well to let us know she had Cristian pulled from class and had him evaluated by the Speech Pathalogist. She discovered he has some speech issues as he doesn't pronounce certain sounds correctly that he should be able to and she also noticed "processing delays". She has requested a full evaluation to be done on him and they are going to setup classes to work on his speech. We should have the results of the evaluation on Monday when we meet with his teacher for a face to face conference. His teacher as well as Lara and I believe that he is dyslexic but there is also another disconnect going on which may be this "processing delay". I just want to figure out what learning challenges he has so that he can get into the right programs to overcome them and make learning a fun experience for him. Keep your fingers crossed for us and will have more news on Monday...
It felt so nice to just spend the day together with just the 3 of us. We did spelling words, played, went to the park, read stories, went for ice cream, had make your own taco night...it was just awesome. I love days like that!
Tomorrow - I have to drive into the office for work (yuck) and then have baseball practice at 5:30, team meeting for my leadership class at 8:30, and need to fit a 45 min workout in somewhere during the day. Oh, and tomorrow puts me only 2 days away from Friday! Yeah!
Keep Moving,
M E
